AYP

I found out today that the school I work at did not meet AYP. This is discouraging as we put forth a valiant effort this year towards improving ourselves in several areas.

As I was skimming around, I noticed that only one school in all of Forsyth county did not make AYP. There were SEVERAL schools in Hall that did not make it. I've started to think about what makes the difference. What can we be doing differently to ensure a quality education for our students?

I know that my teaching this year will greatly improve from last year. Getting that first year under my belt will benefit me and my students greatly.

Vacation

Pat and I recently got back from our vacation. I have to say that we had a blast. It was amazing how you can go away for a few days and it's actually strange to come back. We started our vacatiion by going down to Florida.

Day 1
Our first stop was Pat's parents house in Warer Robins.

Day 2
The second night we went to Melbourne, Florida to see Pat's great uncle Bob and his wonderful wife Gabby. They were so hospitable. They really are a great couple.
While we were in Melbourne, we got to see our friends, Hugh and Lauren. They are super cool people, so naturally it was great catching up with them.

Day 3
The next day we were off to Miami. We had a reservation at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. The hotel was gorgeous. We had a blast down there and had the best dining experience ever. We went to Ruth's Chris Steak House. Although quite expensive, the steak was amazing. Sean Hannity was right on the money this time.

The only bummer about being in Miami when we did was that it rained almost constantly. I should have taken a picture of some of the cars that were half in the water because of flooding.

Day 4
After we left the Biltmore we went to Fort Lauderdale. This was an especially good day for me, because I was able to see my old college roommate, and see the church that I was an intern at during college. We met Jen for lunch right across the street from her condo. She has a beautiful place although she's moving to Texas any day now. The church has been going through several additions, so it looked different since the last time that I was there (www.fbcnet.com).
After we leave her, we went to see the new Pirates movie. Although it was good, we were somewhat disappointed. The end of the movie just led us to the beginning of the next one.
After the movie we went to Ft. Myers to stay the night. We had to travel on 75 through Alligator Ally. It poured like I've never seen it pour before. Pat was an amazing driver. I would have freaked out and probably got us in an accident. Pat handled it like a pro and before we knew it, we were out of the rain, safe and sound.

Day 5
Cruise Day! Before the cruise we met up with Nic and his fiance Lori. I am so happy that they found each other. They seem to be a great couple. Pat gets to officiate their wedding. What an honor!
The first day at sea on the cruise was fun. We had never been on a cruise before and didn't really know what to expect. Everyone we talked to said that cruises were amazing. We truly thought that we would have a blast.
At dinner, we got to meet who we would have dinner with every night. Thank God we got to sit with Lance and May. They were a sweet, fun couple that had many of the same feelings that we did.

Day 6
Honestly...this day was boring. We were having a "Fun day at Sea," which is cool except, we weren't having fun. We just found that we were easily bored. I thought Pat might get bored because he's used to doing 5 things at once. I'm easily entertained though, and I STILL found myself bored. To top it off, the dinners on the ship were not good. Granted, we could have as much as we wanted, but we hardly ate anything.

Day 7
This was the day that we were in Grand Caymon Islands. We had a blast on this day. We went to Stingray City and we went snorkeling along the coral reef. I was feeding the string rays and one of them bit me because I didn't let the food go fast enough. It was fun having a battle wound.
I love snorkeling! I love being in the water surrounded by cool looking fish.

Day 8
We were in Mexico. Pat found something he really likes to do....drive a jeep. We rented a jeep so that we could do several things during our time there. We started off in Playa Del Carmen. We did the shopping thing which I love. I bought a cowboy hat. I love the bartering system. It's fun to talk people down.
We also got an umbrella and some chairs and hung out by the beach for a few hours. The water is so clear. It was most definitely relaxing.
Then we were off to the Senotes. Basically it's a cavern underground that holds the longest underground river in the world. You have to snorkel in there because there are certain spots that you can't have your head up in. It's simply amazing. What a treat! I love adventure. I think that one day I just may go ski diving!

Day 9
Another "fun day at sea"

Day 10
We left the ship around 7:45 am. We drove to Warner Robins to celebrate Pat's parents birthdays....they are twins (that's the joke that Pat likes to say).
We took them out to eat at Cheddars. I love that place!
We left that night for home because we were having a youth group spend the night the next night while they were on their way home from a missions trip.

I have to say that Pat is awesome. He drove the whole way and only required shoulder massages. That's the least I could do. I fell more in in love with him during our trip. He's the man!

We had a great vacation. Now we are getting ready for the camp out west that Pat is speaking at. I'm pumped!

Blogging for me is a great way to simply journal. I've been thinking lately about the benefits of writing down thoughts and events to record them for the future. So, here I go.
